Philippians 4:4-9 (NIV)

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!

Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

 

OUR FIRST CHAPEL AS GRADE 6 LEADERS AND GROWTH MINDSET STUDY!!

This past Wednesday, the Grade 6 students (and some Grade 5s) led their FIRST Chapel!!  Such an amazing opportunity to share and worship!  Some things we do:  Greet/Welcome the Intermediates at the doors, work at Tech stations, read Bible verses, open in prayer, lead the singing, play the instruments….so proud of this first group!  See photos!!

We’ve also been reviewing our “GROWTH MINDSET.”  Working at 5 different stations, we have learned that everyone can learn and improve–just keep trying and make sure you are connecting those “neurons” in your brain until they are strong!!  That takes lots of practice!  Anyway, your child should have brought home a homework assignment for YOU as PARENTS, (SMILE) to share with our class a time when YOU used GROWTH MINDSET in your past or present!!  Looking forward to hearing from you and sharing with the rest of the class!!

 

First Field Trip a Success!

Thank you parents for all the preparations for our first Gr. 6 Field Trip.  Forms signed, lunches packed, library cards sent, walking shoes remembered – and we were on our way!

We had a good walk from Highroad Academy to the Chilliwack Museum, and started our tour right away.  The new Museum teacher, Sarah, gave an excellent explanation of the history of Chilliwack as well as the history of mountaineering in our area.  There were many hands-on activities to engage our students.

We had a sobering moment as we viewed a tribute to a former Highroad Academy student, Marc LeClerc, one of our stellar local mountaineers, who lost his life while mountain climbing recently

After lunch, we walked over to the Chilliwack Public Library where we met the head librarian for a brief orientation and tour.  The library supplied a fun activity that helped us learn about many of the services available.  As we said goodbye, the librarian gave each of the students a gift, and the check out librarian came to me personally to thank the students for their politeness.

 

Back at the museum, we were supplied with a beautiful high-ceiling elegant reception room to use as a classroom as we learned more about Terry Fox, and enjoyed a snack before the walk back to school in the beautiful weather.

As you can see from the photo, the Chilliwack Museum is a very serious place!

FIELD TRIP ON FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 28TH!!

Friday is our Field Trip to the Chilliwack Museum.  It is a full day, walking to the museum, seeing exhibits, visiting the library, and learning about Terry Fox, then walking back to school.  Please note:

  • Students wear their Highroad uniform, with sturdy walking shoes
  • We recommend the students bring a water bottle
  • Students need to bring a lunch that does not require a microwave
  • There will be NO opportunity for students to purchase any lunch or snack items

 

 

It’s going to be a gorgeous day!!!!  Ms Froyland and Mrs. Shinness look forward to a great experience with both of our classes together.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • Purdy’s Fundraiser- Catalogues are available at the school office.  25% of each student’s sales goes in their Student reserve account and prizes will be given to families with the highest sales.  Orders are due at the school office by Friday, Nov. 23, 2018 and will be available for pick up on Friday Dec. 7, 2018.
  • Knight’s Day-  Our first Knight’s Day is this Wednesday.  Students can wear their Highroad Knight’s t-shirts and jeans.  If you need to purchase any Knight’s wear, the store will be open in the lobby on Wednesday before school.  For those of you who ordered hot lunch, this will also be happening on Wednesday.
  • Student Photos – these are coming home today…they look amazing!  Please return order forms to the office by September 27th.  If you would like re-takes, they are October 15th.
  • Toonies for Terry:  On Friday, September 28th we will be having our annual ‘Toonies for Terry’ run.  Because Grade 6 will be WALKING to and from their field trip to the Chilliwack Museum that day, that will count for part of their “run.”   If you are able to donate a toonie to the Terry Fox Foundation, that would be greatly appreciated.  We will collect the toonies in the classroom or at the office. Deadline is Monday, Oct. 1st!!  LET’S SHOW OUR SUPPORT!!
